How do mechanics and thermodynamics guide the behavior of biological materials, especially membranes and membrane proteins? How do soft materials and complex fluids self-organize? Can we use bio-molecules to create new sorts of complex materials for non-biological purposes? We design and conduct experiments to explore these issues. By "experiments"we mean a wide range of studies using many different tools and techniques, with special emphasis on optical microscopy -- see the Research page for more information (and a few pictures). "We" means Prof. Raghuveer Parthasarathy and graduate and undergraduate students. The lab is located in 171 Willamette Hall, at the University of Oregon.
Feel free to contact Prof. Parthasarathy (raghu [at] uoregon.edu) with questions, especially about joining the group! Positions available!
for undergraduates and graduate students in Physics, Chemistry,
or Biology.
