In July 2010 a group of students associated with the (UCORE summer research program at the University of Oregon ), led by Ian Oberst, constructed a big vat of cornstarch and water. This mixture is a fun "viscoelastic" fluid, easily stirred if pushed gently, and solid enough to dance on if hit fast. Ian worked in my (Raghu Parthasarathy's) lab during the summer.
Here's a video of slow stirring, featuring Kiran Parthasarathy. (Note his unsolicited assessment: "This is fun!")
Here's Ian, dancing.
Here I am, running across. (We've got movies of everyone in the lab, plus our department chair, and others!)
